Instructions and Help about Irs Tax Advocate hours

I'm a local taxpayer advocate for the state of Michigan. I work for the Taxpayer Advocate service, which is an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service. We help taxpayers resolve problems with the Internal Revenue Service that they can't get resolved through normal channels. I started as a revenue officer. I became a bankruptcy manager and then a revenue officer group manager. From there, I moved to problem resolution as a manager, and eventually became the taxpayer advocate for the state of Michigan. I have a strong sense of caring about taxpayers and empathy for their situations. We are here to assist taxpayers. I possess good technical knowledge and understand tax laws both locally and nationally. Having such knowledge is crucial for success in this position. Although I came in as a revenue officer and worked in that role for some time, I have a varied technical background. I also worked in bankruptcy, which helped prepare me for the position I hold now. However, it is possible for someone even from a human resources background to come in and learn what they need to know. We often assist taxpayers who are facing difficult situations, such as foreclosure or inability to meet their living expenses. Being able to provide assistance or relief to these taxpayers is incredibly satisfying.
